Law clearing 2025

Hello , I wanted to ask if people knew what Unis would be likely to go into clearing for Law 2025 and what the process is ? I have received offers from two unis however I'm starting to regret them and was wondering what my options are ? Many thanks

Hiya,

Sorry to hear that its not going to plan :frown: In general, there are lots of universities that put their courses up for clearing, however, it honestly varies year to year, as it depends on which universities have spaces on their courses that year. So really, it depends quite a bit on competition for that specific year! For example, I believe that there were clearing places last year in Cardiff for Law. However, that might be subject to change for this year.

The earliest you'll hear about clearing courses is probably July, if that helps!

In terms of the process, UCAS has some really helpful resources, and I recommend having a look at this page here.

I wish you the best for your applications!

It's sometimes possible to establish what courses were in Clearing last year for a given uni, but it's much harder to establish which unis were in Clearing for a given course. So, did you have any particular unis in mind?

The process is as follows:
You contact one or more unis to which you would like to apply via Clearing. This always used to be on the phone, but increasingly unis are providing web forms to gather the information they need to make a decision.
Each uni makes an informal decision, based on the information you have provided (over the phone or via their web form).
You formally apply to one via UCAS Hub. Note that you can't be holding an offer or a place in order to formally apply via Clearing. So if you're holding one (at a uni you no longer want to attend) then you need to decline it.
The uni to which you applied (hopefully) confirms your place. I say hopefully as this can sometimes go wrong, either if your full UCAS application contains something which disagrees with what you'd told the uni informally, or if they've informally told too many people that they'd be happy for them to apply.
If they don't, you apply to another. Until you secure a place.

I was thinking about Nottingham or Leeds however I am unsure if they typically go into clearing . Thanks for the help

Top Unis usually avoid putting Law into Clearing - they would rather fill any spaces from 'near miss' Firms than have the reputational damage of putting a flagship course into Clearing.

One way of gauging possible courses in Clearing is to check what is still open to UK applicants in Extra - its not a guarantee, but its indicative of courses that may not be filled without additional recruitment.

Thanks. I'm unable to tell you whether Law was in Clearing at University of Nottingham last year. However, I can confirm that it was in Clearing (for UK applicants) at University of Leeds. The screenshot below show their Clearing web page as at 14 August 2024 (a day before A level results day):
