International Relations offers

Got offers from Southampton, Surrey, QMUL for International Relations struggling to decide! Which has the best program and reputation? Would love to hear any thoughts on teaching, career opportunities, and student life. Thanks!

I’m sure all the unis you’re looking at are great, but since I study at Southampton, I can share what it’s like here!
The International Relations course is super engaging, you get to explore big global topics like security, migration, and the role of institutions like the UN and WTO. There’s a lot of flexibility with optional modules, so you can shape your degree based on what interests you most, whether that’s UK politics, the EU, the US, or even criminology and economics.
One of the things I really like is how much support you get. Every student has a personal tutor from their course who’s there to help whenever you’re stuck or need guidance. The lecturers are approachable, helpful and really insightful. We also get guest talks from professors who’ve actually worked in the field, which makes everything feel more real and relevant.
There are also great opportunities outside of classes, like study abroad programs, work placements, and public engagement activities (we even get to visit places like Westminster and Whitehall).
And student life? It’s honestly great. Southampton has a really friendly and diverse community, so you meet people from all over. There are loads of societies and events, and the uni itself has a good balance between academics and fun.
Hope this helps!
