Durham Course Change

I just got an offer for Accounting and Finance and Durham, would I later on be able to switch to just BSc Finance upon enrolling?

I suggest you ask Durham now to see if they are willing to change it for you.

What offer did you get and what were your grades? I was rejected last week and trying to work out why

My situation is quite particular, I have an offer now for Durham BSc finance and Accounting and finance. I got ABC. You may have gotten rejected from a weaker personal statement

As long as you meet minimum requirements at top unis it's a personal statement + extra curriculars game

No it’s not. For example less than 5% of applicants to LSE for economics get an offer. Most of them have above the minimum requirements. But there are 25 applicants for every place.

No that not the case. For popular courses there are far more applicants than places. Some universities will not even look at the personal statements. Extra curricular activities should barely feature on your personal statement.

There's a reason people at unis like LSE or Oxford all don't have 3A*s, you'll see ppl on econ and management at Oxford with like A*AA etc. Once you meet minimum it literally is a personal statement game.

Naive! Although some unis may focus on the ps, others won't and will look at grades only.
There are also so many other factors that they consider when making offers, like underrepresented groups or postcodes eligible for contextual offers. The unis make offers to many more students than there are places based on stats for previous years of how many accept.

I got rejected from Finance last week. Did Al Levels already and have A*,A,A and A in EPQ. Gutted. It was my first choice. Does anyone know if I can appeal or beg?

Sorry to hear that, unbelievable with your achieved grades too. What were your GCSEs like? Contextual/non-contextual?

Similar for me. Predicted A*AA with only 8s/9s at GCSEs - home/non-contextual!

The entry grade stated were AAB and the range of grades of previous offer holders was A*A*A* with AAB most common and lowest CCC! Guess they were chasing the international students (money money money!). Should have checked the admission stats before I applied - 30% offer rate for home / uk students, 92% for internationals. Guess it's an easy one for international students to go for and Durham needs the money, don't they?
