What you can claim for

Hi, My daughter starts Uni this September. I know we can apply for a tuition fee loan, and I see there a maintenance loan also, is the Maintenance loan to include the accommodation costs or is that a separate loan again?

Students pay for all living expenses (accommodation, food, travel, social) from the maintenance loan. If a student does not receive the maximum loan, the expectation is that parents would make up the difference. Many students get part-time jobs at uni to supplement the maintenance loan.

Hi @simone.harwood!

Yes a maintenance loan is what students typically use to pay for most day-to-day things such as food, rent, travel to and from Uni etc. It is paid to the student in 3 instalments, spread out across the academic year. Certain factors will determine how much maintenance loan your daughter is eligible to apply for and the application for the loan can be found here, https://www.gov.uk/apply-online-for-student-finance.

Maintenance loans are very easy to apply for and can be done both online and through the post. I hope this information has helped answer your question! Please feel free to ask any other queries you may have!

Thank you, Matt 🙂
