Should i go to St Andrews

Hi, I've always lived in a big city, close to city centre (Glasgow), and now it's time to decide on what uni I'll go to. My top choice has always been Glasgow, so I don't have to move, but I recently decided I want to move for uni and experience something new because i feel like if i don't move away now then i'll never experience what it's like to live away from home in a different city. I've got either unconditional offers or very achievable conditionals from all 5 of my choices (Glasgow, Stirling, Dundee, Aberdeen and St Andrews), so that is not an issue. My top 2 choices are St Andrews and Aberdeen as they both have highly accredited Psychology programes and they both give me the opportunity to live away from home. St Andrews is a very prestigious uni and could open up a lot of doors for me, but I don't know if I could handle living in such a small town, whereas Aberdeen isn't as good of a uni, but it's a big city, and my best friend moved there last year so I wouldn't be totally alone. I also done a widening access summer school at st andrews and really enjoyed it, however that is totally different from living there full time. I'm so lost but have to decide soon so that I can apply for accommodation.

Hey, don't really know much much help I can be but I have accepted my offer to study Spanish at St Andrews but I attended the Sutton Trust summer school at St Andrews last year. I know someone who is there currently and I know that they really enjoy it because even though it is a small town there is always things on like societies etc. Let me know if you want to chat about anythting or if you do decide to go!

I have accepted to study Maths at St Andrews. I am coming from Cornwall where there are beaches, countryside and house parties so I know St Andrews will be the same. Can't wait! (But terrified as I'm literally 10 hours away from everyone).

Ahhhh, it's so scary once you have accepted the offer, it really makes it real. I have been to Cornwall a couple of times it's so beautiful down there. We might bump into each other in St Andrews (probably inevitable since it's so small) Are you applying for accommodation?

Yes I am. Can't yet though as still waiting to hear back from Warwick so can't decline and accept St A until that happens. Which means I can't get my student number and apply for it! Hopefully I can do it after offers day though. Are you going?

stA is nice because although it's a small town, it's very close to Dundee and only an hour and a half bus journey from Edinburgh. You have a peaceful place to live, but can easily go to nearby cities and experience everything there.

I wouldn’t worry about distance too much. I’m at St Andrews and there’s few locals here. I’m from Somerset so have a similar experience and there’s lots of people from places like London which are still quite a considerable distance

Thanks Alex, that's good to know! Looking forward to the open day on the 5th. Hopefully meet some people there so there's some friendly faces in September.
