Wrong A-Level Choices

Hi

I’ve taken Biology, Chemistry, Maths thinking I wanted to do Medicine but I’ve just had a harsh realisation half way through year 12 that I don’t want to do it anymore.

The only other things I was interested in were engineering, maths, computer science and I’ve realised this far too late as I’ve done the wrong a level combination to get into any of these subjects

Any advice is really appreciated as I’m really panicking over what to do now
Hi Leighb,

I'm sorry to hear that you feel like you've chosen the wrong A-Level choices. It might be worth checking the exact entry requirements for some of the courses you do want to study at your chosen unis. For example those A-Levels could make you eligible to apply for the maths and engineering courses (probably other courses too) here at York.

Good luck finding the right course 🙂

Okay so first of all, take a deep breath you will be fine. I don't exactly understand what you mean when you say you have the wrong combination. For computer science most universities only require maths and since you have all STEM a levels you should be fine. It depends on the type of engineering but most will also only require maths, (Heck you have ideal for biomedical engineering). Maths is the only one where they may require further maths, but if you want to do it you'll find places without much struggle.
What's more is that if you truly can't get in, the most you'd have to do is a foundation year.
Contextualise the situation. It would have been disastrous if you had all social science and wanted to get into this field, but you have STEM. I'd be really surprised if you don't meet entry requirements for a good bunch of courses.
