Deep diving into different TV characters jobs...

Have you ever wanted to do a TV characters job?

Did you know that Homer Simpson earns £29k annually? And that's without a degree (shocking since he has so much responsibility).

Chandler Bing's "transponster" job earned him around £40k, and he likely studied advertising at college which applied to his later career.

And don't get me started on Barney Stinson's job, as the fall-guy for a corrupt organisation it was hard to find, but his (legal) responsibilities are close to an internal auditor, which at his level could earn him up to £70k.

What other characters jobs should I investigate? 🤔

Good question! I think that the jobs transfer differently to uk (not to take it from the UK one though)

For Michael I've looked at Branch Manager roles, even though he lost his tuition money in a pyramid scheme (very on brand for him) a degree or HND in business management would have helped him, but he worked his way up from sales and that's always a valid career path. He's probably on £40-45k.

Dwight's assistant to the regional manager responsibilities do tend to actually seem more like an Assistant Branch Manager at times (SORRY TO TAKE DWIGHTS SIDE), he's probably on £30-35k. Beet farming experience could have helped him get here though (someone's got to sell them, amirite?)

I looked at sales exec jobs for Jim, and (in the early seasons) his role is a salesman (sales exec) so he's probably on around £25k, he wouldn't need a degree for this.

I did see some people had calculated these differently, I've been taking what they do and looking at similar roles to match it 😀 I could go on all day!
I would love to be one of those people from Balamory - no matter what their job was they seemed awfully cheerful.

The other option would be Bruce Wayne.

Josie Jump - fitness instructor at primary school
Probably earns around £18-28k, and a HND or degree in health science or sport coaching would have helped her. She would also need a DBS check.

Miss Hoolie - nursery teacher
£30-38k as she's the main teacher. Would have completed EYTS (early years teacher status) and degree in a childhood related subject.

Spencer - Painter
Likely self employed and probably earning £32-35k. He may have done an apprenticeship or similar to get into the field.

Edie - Bus driver
Around £25-28k (likely pro rata'd though), it's probably safe to assume she's also self employed repairing cars for the adults outside of pick up and drop off. She probably educated in mechanics, has a full D1 license, and a DBS check.

I'd say that they're so happy because they are a village of extroverts who have mainly people facing roles, and they love it! Also who wouldn't be happy in a village with such bright houses?!

As for Bruce Wayne, he's put as the CFO for his company that he owns the main stake in, so it's hard to come up with a figure (on top of his trust fund as well!) but it's a lot, how else would he fund his extra curricular activities?
working at Torchwood looks pretty fun albeit a bit deadly  apparently they're pretty well paid for alien hunters

They are paid really well I'm sure, but it's hard to tell because they're paid by the crown and all come from different backgrounds, if you want to join the team I'd recommend training as a police officer, doctor, or in computer science and hanging around places with high alien activity! 👽

Hi there!

Very nice and funny idea for a thread!

I've always loved the fact that Indiana Jones has a fully-fledged academic and teaching career as a university lecturer for Archaeology, but balances it with travelling the world, going on adventures and solving problems (even if he does get himself caught up in dangerous situations everywhere he goes!).

Looking forward to hearing more thoughts!

I certainly wouldn't want to be approving Indiana Jones's annual leave! Though he's probably on around £60-75k, so I'm sure he can afford it! With his experience in the army his adventurous career is well-suited, and his teaching experience probably keeps his mind sharp and patient 😊

Hiya!

This has been such a fun read 😂

You mentioned Chandler from F.R.I.E.N.D.S what do you think about the others?

Here’s my take:

Ross would earn the most as a palaeontologist 🦖

Chandler could be a close second 📈 (depending on what he actually does 😂)

Rachel as a manager / executive in the fashion industry 🛍️

Monica as a chef 👩*🍳

Joey as an actor 🎭️

And Phoebe a singer/massage therapist 🪕

Curious to hear your thoughts!

🧛* Speaking of fictional careers, let's talk about the Cullens' finances! (Twilight)

Dr. Carlisle Cullen probably makes £100k+ as a senior physician/ experienced surgeon (plus imagine all those centuries of compound interest! 💰).

Alice probably made a fortune from stock market predictions (totally fair play? 🤔), while Edward's been accumulating musical expertise for over 100 years - that's one expensive piano teacher! 🎹 (He'd most likely have antique art or music worth a lot.)

Charlie Swan's police chief 🚨salary in Forks would've been around £60-70k - not too shabby for a small town! Though he probably spent most of it on diner food since we never saw him cook... 🍳

Now I'm curious about what other supernatural characters' jobs pay... Maybe we should look into Buffy's non-existent Slayer salary next? 🦹

It'd count as research leave and if he was on a teaching and research contract than any time outside of teaching weeks is basically fully his own
