Meeting entry requirements & accommodation

The entry requirements for marketing is 120, I’ve already got a B from last years exams, and I need to get two more Bs or either an A or a C. I’m really struggling in one of my subjects at the moment, and I’m not confident I’ll get a B. It’s made worse as I’m in a Crohn’s flare at the moment, which is making it hard for me to attend my lessons. I’ve also applied for accommodation and left a £200 deposit so I think the room is secured? Does anyone know how it would work if I had to go through clearing? Would I have to find a different room? And does anyone have any eduqas sociology tips?

You can only apply for accomodation at MMU if you have selected their offer as your firm choice, so I'm going to assume that's what you've done.

If you don't meet the offer conditions, and MMU opt not to accept you (note that they can opt to accept you if you just miss the conditions), but you were subsequently offered a place on a different course at MMU via Clearing, then you would not be guaranteed accomodation.

You can see that on the Accomodation Guarantee page, here, which confirms that "Students with a firm offer that has been declined but a new course offer has been made through Clearing" would not be eligible for the accommodation guarantee. You may still receive accomodation - you just wouldn't be guaranteed accomodation.

If you did not receive accomodation, you would be refunded the £200 rent pre-payment (once you've provided your bank details, so they know to where it should be refunded).

If they still choose to accept me onto the same course, despite my grades does that class as me going through clearing?

Hi @ggeorgia00

As the other poster mentioned, if at Confirmation in August you miss out on your grades, Manchester Met may still confirm your place regardless. If your place is not confirmed we always try to offer you an alternative course, such as a foundation year. If that happens your accommodation place would typically still be guaranteed but you'd be advised to contact Accommodation to confirm in this instance: 0161 247 2958.

If your place is not confirmed and we are not able to offer an alternative course, you could then apply for a different course through Clearing and you would lose your original accommodation. If this happens and you decide to apply to us through Clearing, I would advise you contact our Accommodation team once you've applied to see if there is anything they can do.

I would also advise contacting our Business and Law Admissions team and make them aware of your Crohn's if that has been affecting your studies as they may consider this when deciding whether to confirm your place in August: [email protected].

Hope this helps.
Mel 😊

I can't help with the uni and accomodation bit.

But if you are having a flare in your health, maybe try speaking to your exams office and try to get special consideration. It's not much, but it's something. You'll need medical evidence for the application.
