Is it worth to study drama/acting and where at school/academy/uni?

Hello,
My name is Alesja, and I am in Year 10. I would like to study drama/acting classes at school/academy/uni, and I am not sure, which place is the best.

1. Is it worth to study acting/drama?
2. What are the job perspectives?
3. What should I choose academy/school or uni, or both?
4. What are common requirements?

I would like to study locally. I live in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Do you know any good schools/academies/unis from my area?

I am going for an open day to NTU, Nottingham College, West Notts College, Sheffield Hallam Uni, and EPA in Mansfield.

5. Would I have more opportunities somewhere else, for example, large cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham, or East Midlands is good choice as well?

6. Is EPA any good, do you know?

Regards,

Alesja

Have a look at a UAL extended diploma in performing arts - my daughter did one instead of 6th form - it gives you UCAS points like A levels do so you can still go to uni afterwards. They do them all over the country - I don't know if this one is near to you https://www.nottinghamcollege.ac.uk/courses/acting-level-3-full-time If not see if your local college does it. Hope this helps

Btw I don't know if that college is any good as my daughter did hers in wales I'm just recommending the level 3 extended diploma course. I see that EPA do an extended diploma too. What you're best looking for is a level 3 course to do after GCSEs then you can decide on uni/drama school afterwards. You'll probably need 4 or 5 GCSEs whatever you decide to do. Some places also offer level 2 courses which you can sometimes do in place of a gcse

Are you currently attending any drama classes/youth theatres? How academic are you. if you are capable of A levels then staying at 6th form and doing A level Drama alongside attending a youth theatre would be a good option. If you are not academic then look at Btec Level 3 diplomas.

I know EPA as being a musical theatre/dance college. I'd say they were a good local option. Another place to look at would be MADD (Jay McGuiness trained there). Both of those colleges would be good for the Btec study aged 16. If you then want to train professionally you can look wider at age 18.

Employment opportunities as a performer are not good. Very few make it but you can also gain a lot of transferable skills.
