Question about dissertations

Hi. So I’ll be doing my dissertation next year and I wanted to know, does it have to be related to the subject you’re doing? So do I have to do a dissertation on something law related or can it be on anything that interests me?

It would be related to your course. It's a key component of whatever degree you are taking. Boundaries can be stretched, but not broken.

Hiya!

Your dissertation is usually related to your field, but there’s still a lot of flexibility in how you approach it! There are so many angles you could explore within law, and you might be able to incorporate topics that genuinely interest you, and this is what lecturers like to read!

I’d definitely recommend having a chat with your personal tutor or lecturers about this, they can give you a better idea of what’s possible. As a third-year student, I can say it’s never too early to start thinking about your dissertation! Even just asking what topics past students have done can be a great way to get some inspiration and make the process feel more manageable or if you already have an idea ask about it !

Hope this helps 🙂

Hey @Charlieee1,

I definitely agree with Maddie that there's a lot of flexibility in terms of what your dissertation can focus on. For example, I study BA Fine Art and Art History, and wrote my dissertation around the economics of the art market (as I had a passion for economics outside of my studies). The dissertation is a good opportunity to combine your current legal knowledge with something that interests you, but it should still fit within the overall field of what you're studing.

Hope this helps,

Yes, the topic of the dissertation must be related to what you are studying for. Personally, it was very difficult for me to find a topic for my dissertation. In fact, if it weren't for Oxessays oxessays.com , I wouldn't have written it myself. I'm very happy that I've already graduated from university and received my diploma. I wouldn't go back to my last year of university for anything in the world. It was too difficult for me to be honest.
