How Many Outfits Does a Baby Girl Really Need?

I keep buying baby clothes, but I feel like I’m overdoing it. How many outfits do you realistically need for a baby girl in the first year? I want to avoid wasting money.
Quite a lot, but in all different sizes as they grow really quickly.

Okay so:

1) winter dresses / skirts with tights look cute but they are a massive pain in the arse. Unless it's for a photo shoot, forget it. Wrestling a baby into tights is a nightmare.

2) for night, vest and sleepsuit (or just a vest in hot weather). Buy lots of both because they will get poo / wee / milk on them A LOT.

3) for day, vest, trousers, long sleeves top, socks for colder weather. Shorts and tshirts for summer. Again buy a fair few of these.

4) don't bother with shoes until the child can stand up.

5) babies pull socks off a lot. You may lose a few.

6) pack 2 spare sets of clothes everywhere you go.

7) babies are like octopi. Don't buy anything that's hard to put on / take off, even if it looks cute.

8 ) if you suspect your baby will be big at birth, don't buy more than 1 or 2 newborn outfits. Buy mostly 0-3. (Mine never fit in newborn stuff).

With my daughter, I thought I needed so many outfits at first, but I quickly realized we really just rotated through maybe a dozen at a time because of laundry. Babies grow so fast, some clothes hardly got worn before she sized out. I learned to keep it simple: a good number of bodysuits, a few cozy sets, and some cute pieces for outings. Half the fun is picking cute things, but I definitely ended up with more clothes than we ever used. If you want to make the outfit thing more special, we picked up a few personalized pieces for milestone events, like her baptism. There’s a site all about unique, handmade baptism gifts and outfits that I found really helpful, you can check out https://lovia.ro/ for more ideas.
