Sorry if this is a silly question but I've heard it thrown around that some PhD programmes don't accept MAs from the Courtauld as it is a 9-month programme rather than a 1-2 programme. Can someone please shed any light on this?

If you have a look at LinkedIn profiles of Courtauld MA graduates you will see that many do PhDs afterwards. However, the Courtauld MA is very much a taught MA as opposed to the Cambridge MPhil in History of Art which is by research. Where do you want to do your PhD?

Thanks for answering! I've been looking at programmes in Australia. For example, UniMelb which requires 'A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline which includes a substantial research component, equivalent to at least 25% of one year of full-time study', and i'm not sure if the Courtauld MA satisfies this?
If you want to do a PhD in Australia, why do an MA in the UK? Though the MA dissertation and essays should satisfy the research components.
