Does the wit society aim to create an environment in which existing wit is nurtured? Or in which people who have no existing wit can spend hours thinking of witty remarks, to make it appear that they are wits, however, the wit they so wittily convey is infact utter sh*te.

It doesn't matter. They do it so people will talk about them, which is better than not being talked about at all.

Which is actually a very stupid way of thinking all humans have. We regularly talk of the most evil people in the world for certain reasons, turn on the news and see. However, some of the greatest and most selfless men that ever lived, never even get a mention.
