LJMU accommodation choices

Hi everyone, I went on the LJMU applicant day yesterday and got to visit a majority of the different accommodation sites and just need some advice on what I should go for.

I am planning to study English, so I would be based on the Mount Pleasant campus. I didnt get much chance to visit the City campus accommodation (also didnt think it would be very helpful as I wouldnt be near there.)

I would prefer an ensuite as I take a lot of time in the bathroom & can be a clean freak (I only share a bathroom with 1 other person at home) but I am also understanding of the uni experience and am open to living it despite all of my restrictions lolol. My favourite accommodation by far was St. Andrews Gardens, but my mum & friends believe I should stay in an ensuite knowing what I am like.

I very much liked the old estate feel to St. Andrews Gardens. The rooms were quite big, especially for the price. I really dont want to stay in an accommodation that is too new and one that feels boring. I am steering clear of the more expensive ones as I know that theyre not worth the money & the type of people that stay in those accommodations tend to be quite strange and snobby.

My favourite ensuite accommodation was Albert Court and second to that Grenville Street.

I just want some clarity on what would be better in the long-run/whilst Im actually living there for a good part of my year. Should I look at any City accommodation? If any students have personal knowledge to bestow upon me that would be very great hahah

Thankyou to whoever reads this X

Hi no thats okay thankyou so much for responding! just do you have any insight to give about the accom, do you like living there, is it worth the price etc:smile:x
Hi @julietsun

It’s great to hear that you got to visit the different accommodations on your applicant day!

I’m currently staying at Albert Court, so I can give you a bit of insight. Since you’ll be based at Mount Pleasant, it’s in a really convenient location, about a 10-minute walk to the Student Life building and around 20 minutes to the city centre. It looks further out on a map than it actually is.

All the rooms are ensuite. I’m in a Silver Plus for the extra space, but the Bronze rooms are a good size and have everything you need. The reception staff are really helpful, and they organise social events throughout the year, so there’s a nice sense of community. There’s also a common room, a small gym, and a courtyard area where you can meet people or just chill.

In terms of location, you’ve got Lidl, Home Bargains, Tesco Express, and an Asian supermarket all within walking distance, which makes shopping really easy.

I’ll also attach the accommodation guide which might help with your decision https://issuu.com/ljmu/docs/ljmu_accommodation_guide_feb25

Hope that helps 🙂

Personally I love living at Grenville, it's about 15 minutes walk from Lidl, Lime Street Station, the closest Tesco superstore, and plenty more I'm sure. I find it's worth the price, some of my friends at Cathedral Campus are paying more/the same as me and they have less facilities available so I'm pretty happy with it. I will say it is slightly frustrating collecting post as sometimes staff are unable to find parcels initially (if they haven't been all sorted correctly or they have had a lot of parcels) but overall everything is pretty okay! The staff are all really lovely and have always helped me pretty quickly whenever I've had issues such as things breaking. Obviously it won't be completely perfect and my experience won't be the same as everyone else's but hopefully it gives some insight!b

Hiya, I'm also looking at studying at Mount Pleasant campus (forensic psychology and criminal justice) and I went up for a tour a couple days ago, I completely understand why you want an en-suite and I'm completely the same. When I went up to look I've become dead set on Hardman House, I love the location (it's right next to the library so when I want to do some late studying I don't have to worry about walking alone in the dark), I love that you only share with 3 people in the flat, I think its pretty spacious, its new but not nearly as expensive as Limelight or Horizon Heights and it's only a 10 minute walk into the city.
Obviously it's completely up to personal preference but I hope this helped a bit
