Does anyone know anything about Kingston’s newly introduced Future Skills. Is it really a good thing to study?

not particularly - pretty much the students here hate it, and it's being used to replace existing courses that students like with relatively useless classes that are too general to help anyone.

What's more, Kingston's "Future Skills" plan is part of plans to close a lot of departments. My department, humanities, is getting closed *while I am on my course*, and it looks like my lecturers will be made redundant, and existing courses/modules will all of a sudden no longer be taught. they're the reason I'm here!

Hi @Poetdreams

Kingston's Future Skills was developed in collaboration with a large range of employers who have given their input on what skills they look for in employees, in order for the students to learn how to apply those skills during their course and in the future.

Future Skills is embedded within every course curriculum and throughout the whole Kingston experience, meaning that every student is automatically part of the Navigate module which introduces the Future Skills through interactive workshops (so you don't have to worry about choosing it as it will be a part of your course curriculum anyway 😉).

The nine attributes that were identified as being key and that are being taught at Kingston are:

Adaptability

Collaboration

Creative problem solving

Digital competency

Empathy

Enterprising

Questioning mindset

Resilience

Self-awareness

You can find more information about it here:

As a social work student, my class has had Future Skills workshops throughout the year, similarly to all other courses, and I have found them to be a great introduction to skills that are highly valued in the workplace as well as in life.

I hope this helps 🙂
