UAL Art Foundation 2025 entry

after spending months on my ual portfolio i have failed to remember that they wanted to see lots of observational drawings of the things around us within our work. all of my projects are fashion based (i’m applying for fashion and textiles specialised pathway) so i don't have a whole have a whole lot of this but have lots of research and experimentation in other forms. is this brief rigid or as long as you strongly show your creative strengths is it okay?

I'm thinking of doing a foundation year at UAL, because the course i want to do (fashion comms) requires it.What is the foundation year like and also are the people on the course friendly / is it easy to make friends on the foundation course?
-I have spoken to someone who said it was very competitive which worries me so i just want to get someone elses opinion.

Hi, I’m an international student planning to apply for UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design 2025.

I’ve apply my initial application few days ago, but I haven’t got any reply. Is it possible that I will be rejected at the first stage? If yes, I want to know what could caused rejection, thanks…
My application includes PS, CV and SOP.

In addition, I should submit my portfolio if I get an offer. I want to know what an accepted portfolio should look like, or any other tips for the portfolio. Just want to check before I submit mine. I’ll be very grateful for your response.

Best wishes

Hello !! I have also signed up for the UAL foundation year but i'm a home student. I don't think they reject you before requesting/ seeing your portfolio. Unfortunately I also don't know what an accepted portfolio looks like but I'm sure if you present a wide range of materials as well as practices you enjoy you should be able to make an acceptable one. You should go on their website to understand what they would like to see.

Hi! I’m Andrew. Thanks for your reply!

I’ve gone through the website countless times, and I tried my best to meet their requirements. I’ve also do a lot of research, still, there are few informations besides the website, and I can barely find any YouTube videos about FAD portfolio.

I’m not sure about my chances of getting accepted into the school, but what I can do now is waiting for my offer. Hope everything goes well. I’m a bit nervous.

Btw, I’m wondering which mode of study you chose and which curriculum area you sign up for. For me, I would like to apply specialist (3D design) if I get the offer…

Hi Andrew, I also applied for the UAL Foundation Course (diagnostic mode) and was asked to submit the portfolio some days later. In the meanwhile, I got accepted. My portfolio contains a lot of different stuff, from sketches to sculptures, stencil work, lino cut, figured drawing and 3D projects. But it is all far from perfect, it just shows that I am interested in exploring and learning. Obviously, I need to go to the diagnostic mode to figure out the best way to go from here.
I wish you good luck with your application, and elooeww two, whom I already know from another chat.

I signed up for the specialist fine art mode of study as that's what I want to do at uni !! Yes, I totally agree with you, there's honestly a lacking amount of information about what a good portfolio looks like but let's hope we did a good job nonetheless.

This was quite fast - I submitted my application mid February, was asked to submit the portfolio three days later, and got accepted another three days later. I don't think though that the speed has anything to do with the quality of my portfolio, I might just have been in the faster working decision group (I imaging several groups of tutors/graduate students working together on the decisions of their pile of applications).

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone else has heard back from UAL yet? I submitted my portfolio around the beginning of february and I haven't heard anything back yet. Idk if I'm just being impatient but I just wanna know about anyone else.

Thanks!!

I’m wondering this as well. At the talk, I thought they said they looked at them all after the closing date, but some people see to be saying they have already been accepted.

I’m sure they said they don’t start looking at the portfolios until after the closing date which is why I’m confused at people saying they have already had offers.

Haven’t heard anything either!
