Mature student degree criteria

Good evening,

Im wondering as a 40+ year old i am working as A TA in a primary school. I would like to study and get teaching degree for primary teaching but i dont have a C in science, i do for maths and English.

Is there no other way i can do primary school teaching degree without science?

If so any distance learning degrees out there?

What are my options?
Thanks in advance

Hi there!

York St. John has a mature entry scheme for individuals who have been out of education for more than three years. This scheme covers the primary teaching (initial teacher education) degree at YSJ! The scheme looks at non-traditional qualifications and experience (such as working as a TA) as a part of your application, so in this case you may be accepted without the C in science! Other universities may have similar scheme, so make sure to search for mature entry schemes

I'll link the scheme and the application page here!

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anymore help!

Hi @Missgymnast123,

Unfortunately, students looking to join our course would need to have a GCSE in Science. However, we do offer GCSE Equivalency Exams for applicants who do not meet the GCSE requirements for our course. We offer standalone exams, for students who wish to revise at their own pace at home or revision courses to give students the opportunity to attend guided revision sessions before sitting the exam. Further information about these exams can be found here.

I hope this helps, do let me know if you have any further questions I can assist you with 😀
