Politics edexcel a level

I can never manage to get above 15 in an essay but I genuinely can’t think of any more possible evaluation/development. Can anyone tell me how to get a better grade?

Hey, I got an A* in Politics.

What is your current essay structure? I feel like a good structure can go a long way.

In terms of extra analysis, a trick I liked to use sometimes was to first use a ‘this shows’ statement - e.g when talking about how someone has defied ministerial responsibility I could say ‘this highlights how the convention of ministerial responsibility is no longer as respected over time, with politicians feeling free to ignore convention as long as they have support from the Prime Minister’. I would then follow up with another example, and then say what it meant when viewing these examples together -e.g if they are particularly close together I could talk about how ministerial responsibility is increasingly disrespected, or how the first example set a precedent allowing the other one to follow. I think it helped get my A03 marks up.

Make sure you’re doing simple things to boost your marks, like clearly stating your argument in your introduction and conclusion, making a reasoned judgement about why your argument is stronger than the counterpoint at the end of each paragraph, and making sure you are using signposting statements (examiners often tend to skim/ speed read answers, so if they see words like ‘arguably, conversely, however’ it can definitely boost your marks up as you’re showing clear consideration of both sides of the argument).
