Accommodation

Hi, I've just applied for accommodation at Reading and have unfortunately been rejected from my first choice, which was Stenton Townhouse. My offer is now Bridges Townhouse, and was wondering if this would be too far from the campus to walk to if I got a meal plan. Also, what is the social life like at Bridges? Is it worth getting an en suite? Thanks!

Hi @guest245

I hope you're doing well.

I'm sorry to hear that you did not get allocated your first choice, but Bridges Townhouse is an excellent accommodation so I am sure you will have an excellent time staying here.

Bridges Townhouse is an on campus accommodation so is not far to access the meal plan. The nearest catering outlet is Eat at the Square which is roughly a 5 minute walk from the Bridges area. There are also options further away (roughly a 10 minute walk).

The social life in each hall is dependent upon the people in that accommodation that year so it is difficult to give an overview, but generally the townhouses are very sociable accommodations as they have a lounge area. This is a feature which is unique to the townhouses as it comes with sofas which means the accommodation has more of a house-like design than the halls.

It is also a 5 minute walk from the centre of campus so whilst the accommodation itself is in a quiet area, it is close to the sociable hub at the centre of campus. I currently have some friends in Bridges Townhouse who are really enjoying it and have made very close friends with the others they live with.

Getting an en-suite has pros and cons. When living in a townhouse, you would only be sharing a bathroom with 1 other person. As this counts as a shared bathroom, it would be cleaned for you by the amazing cleaning team weekly. I personally chose to have an en-suite and found this a good experience, but I have also heard very good feedback from those sharing a bathroom in the townhouses.

I hope this has been helpful! Please do let us know if you have any more questions and we would be more than happy to answer.

Stenton Townhouse is 0.6 km from the central Whiteknights campus, opposite Park Eat and close to university facilities. It offers 12-bedroom houses with shared bathroom facilities, shared kitchen/dining areas, and close to Park Group social hub, large laundry, bike shed and post boxes. It is a good option for communal living and staying close to class. Of course, if you want to live alone or have more privacy, you can also consider private student accommodation Reading that offers more choices near your campus.
