How lenient are Universities with grade requirements?

Hello!

I’ve applied to some universities already for French and Film studies (BA) with the predicted grade ABB
I was wondering if Bristol (conditional offer for AAB) and Manchester (conditional offer ABB) would still accept me if I got ABC or ACC (worst case scenario) in my results.

I’m also assuming that my ‘safe’ universities that require BBB would still accept me with ACC

The short answer is that they might.

Unis don't have a blanket policy of being lenient or not. They only decide this when they see the results of all other offer holders for the course this year. Then they know how much wiggle room they have.

Hi there!

Congrats on those offers from those great unis! Its very difficult to predict how lenient unis will be. Generally if they ask for an AAB that'll be what they're ideally looking for so I'd spend the rest of this year doing your best to try to meet those and improve on the areas you find hard. That being said, depending on the uni and how competitive your course is sometimes they will take on near misses. However this is by no means a guarantee.

You are clearly someone who those unis have chosen to give an offer to, which is a good sign and shows you are capable of reaching your AAB. Its also good to hear you've chosen some sensible options for your insurance. I would say yes, they may accept you if you miss the grades but I'd still strongly recommend you do the best you can to meet their offer if you are able!

Wishing you the very best of luck for the rest of the year 🙂

Have you looked at the historic entry grades information on the UCAS course pages?
It’s not a guarantee but it will give you some indication about how lenient they’ve been in the past
