What colleges are the best

Hi, I have just received my Durham offer and now starting to think about colleges, im doing a visit and need to look around 3 colleges, i have applied for geology so I want to be relatively close to the earth sciences area (although I don't mind walking).
I am quite sociable and have no other friends going to Durham so I want to be in a sociable/friendly area. Self-catered is a must and don't mind having a shared bathroom, i would rather have events in my college as i think they would be fun but again I do not mind. I've looked at John snow, Joesphine Butler and South College so far and just wondering if i can get any advice on what would be the best for my situation. Many thanks:smile:
Hello!

I would believe that the colleges you've looked at (John Snow, Josephine Butler and South) are pretty good shouts actually! I can't comment on the social life of any other college but I personally really like the college life at John Snow especially the formals and balls we have however it depends on what you would like to do (such as if there's a specific sport you'd like to do or society)

St Hild & St Bede and Stephensons College are also self-catered and might be worth looking into but I would recommend filtering down based on what each college's JCR has as listed societies/teams. Generally, the college life at all self-catered colleges are about the same so I wouldn't be too worried about that!

Good luck on the open day!

P.S. There's a good chance your lectures won't actually be held at the Earth Science site (because lecture rooms are assigned based on class size not building) so I wouldn't necessarily recommend choosing a college near it
