Bad GCSE’s, good A-Levels. (Need Advice)

I did poorly in my GCSE's
8,8,6,6,4 - with both 6's in Maths and English Language (and 4 failed subjects)
However I am predicated A*, A, A in Economics, History and Business
I want to apply to LSE for 'International Relations and History BSc'
I have super curricular and work experience: Work experience at Deloitte this summer and two lecture events at LSE.
Are my GCSE's going to hold me back?
Should I resit some GCSE’s this summer to better my portfolio, or will I be fine since the course I am interested in is less competitive.
Thanks

Hey!

Firstly the standards are insane!! Those are amazing grades, genuinely, defiantly enjoy your summer, dont resit- remember while LSE is great you get the same degree anywhere- not to mention if it really became an issue (which I genuinely dont think it will) you can always do a foundation year to supplement.

Im not sure for LSE specifically but I got accepted into a uni with 5 GCSEs at much lower grades and under the grade requirement predictions at A levels for multiple universities studying psychology- they are looking for people and effort- it may help in your personal statement to describe how during a levels you learnt how to study and started really applying yourself as the predicted grades you have show you're a dedicated and very smart student. (position the disappointment as a motivator to do better- it shows resilience and a good work ethic)

Also email the university- sounds silly but they can answer your question properly- it also shows active interest and initiative that may help you to stand out.

Regardless with all your experience and your academic history if they don't accept you its their loss - often we surround ourselves with people above us or at the same level and forget to realise the majority are much much lower, be kind to yourself and allow yourself to acknowledge how well you have done.

Goodluck!

After secondary school the only grades that matter are maths and English language. They mainly look at A Levels.

Take my brothers for example: one failed all his GCSE’s except for PE but ended up passing his btec course and retakes of maths and English in college and still got into uni. And another passed most his GCSE’s but failed his btec and still got an apprenticeship!
