should i do an epq for medicine

i’m being given the option to do an epq but i don’t know whether it’s worth my time when i could be studying more for my a levels and the ucat.
if i got A*AA or A*A*A without the epq is that better than AAA A*/A with the epq?
also are my GCSE grades good for applying for medicine as i have a 6 in maths and physics and don’t know whether they will decrease my chances.
6- maths
6- physics
7- health and social care
7- art
8- english literature
8- english language
8- chemistry
8- biology
9- geography.
Thanks!

i did an epq last year and applied for medicine this year - it’s definitely useful for learning how to research and for personal interest, but all the unis i applied to specifically said on their websites they don’t take an epq into account at any stage of the application process. if you have any particular unis you have your eye on already i’d look at their website and see what they say about epqs, usually it’s something good to talk about in your statement/ interview but that’s about it

kent and medway will reduce your offer from AAA To AAB with an A* in the epq 🙂 - could be something worth doing if you want a safety???

as long as you meet the requirements for the medicine course, any grades higher than that will not give an advantage apart from a few unis (exeter only comes to mind). The in maths will hinder your chances at UCL and maybe ICL (require minimum 7) so if possible retake. So i would say EPQs are not advantageous unless you include it in your PS and get interviewed at a uni where they ask about PS.

it won't hinder ucl or icl; they don't require a 7 in anything.

the only one that comes to mind is Bristol.

Sheffield lowers the offer to AAB with an A in epq and Leicester lowers their A*AA to AAA with a B in epq. So if they're unis you're interested in then you can definitely consider. Otherwise most unis don't give consideration for epq, however it does help develop those academic research, referencing and for me personally time management skills.
