Advice on Summer Jobs

I wanna secure a summer job early, I don’t really care what the actual job is (but I’d prefer retail). I live in a suburban area filled with shops.

1) Should I ask around for summer work?
2) Should I take to Indeed to start looking for summer jobs?

Any other advice for summer jobs?
Thanks so much for your input 💙

Don't just use Indeed because Indeed is a horrible website when job searching. Try going on local company websites and check out if they have any summer work listed.

Yeah, I suspected so when looking at Indeed and not finding anything. I do have quite a few retailers near me; I’ll try looking around. Thanks for the advice!

Start applying for summer retail jobs around mid May onwards as they tend to start advertising for summer staff around then and hopefully get people started before the summer terms end's.
If you want to start before summer then apply now for the Easter intake of staff as they tend to have 3 main job intakes each year ( Easter time, summer time and then around mid September start the Christmas and new year vacancies) plus they have vacancies outside of these periods as well.

Apply for places like Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons and other retailers Via there own website..... Make sure you make a online profile account and then search jobs within your local area and if you are successful with your application you'll be asked to do a online assessment ( very easy as based on real life situations in retailing) and hopefully you'll get a pass mark to be offered a potential interview.

Alright, this is really helpful; I’m planning to start probably in the summer so I’ll just give it a rest for now till next month I guess. Thanks so much! 🙏

You are welcome 🤗 🤗

And hopefully when you apply for jobs in the coming months you'll be offered one.

Hi @AR-15

It's fab that you are getting ahead and already starting to think about summer jobs.

I would say check local business Facebook pages. Last year I wrote a big list of local businesses that I thought might get busy over summer and kept checking their websites and social media, or even just reached out and contacted them. Good ones to look at are pubs, uniform shops, ice cream shops or any hospitality that surrounds popular summer activities like walking routes, play centres, garden centres.

I hope this helps and good luck
