changing sixth forms in year 13

I'm in year 12 and I'm not really enjoying my experience at my current sixth form. I contacted a sixth form that is closer to where I live in January and they said they dont take mid-year transfers so I'm just wondering if they'd find it easier to accept me at the start of year 13 or if I should just not bother with them at all. is it common for people to change sixth forms in year 13? especially since I'm p sure they do the same exam boards that my current skl does.

I moved halfway during my gcses and it didn’t do my results any favours! In my case not all subjects were the same exam boards which obviously was never going to work out well. Even for ones that were the same, each school had taught them in a different order so some stuff I did twice and some not at all. Then there was the ordinary but still time-consuming and inevitable stress of settling somewhere new (friends, routines, teachers, facilities, expectations, resources, lifestyle etc). That is all the stuff that detracts from the time and energy which should be spent on learning or relaxing. Then there’s the chance that it could be just as bad or even worse than your current sixth form!

A levels are really only 18 months long so to move in September would be more than halfway through your course. I think you can tell I think it would be unwise to move. However, worse than having poor A levels or a bit of destabilisation would be if you felt really unhappy. Good mental health comes above anything else, so think carefully about your situation. What do your parents think? Could you start somewhere new in September and re-do yr12 so you have the opportunity to do academic justice to yourself? Good luck with whatever you choose
