Question about university applications as a Year 10!

Hi! i’m currently in year 10 and i do not know much about how university applications work, so i have a few questions. please don’t judge me!

From what i know about the UCAS system is that when applying to universities in the UK, you can only apply to 5.
i am assuming that this does not carry over to applying to universities abroad.
So..
would it be possible to apply to, for example, medical courses in the UK via UCAS, but then apply for a different course, like marine biology or chemistry in universities abroad like australia/ USA?

I understand that medicine is an extremely hard course to get into, which is why I chose it for the example. Please do not lecture me about the difficulty of getting onto that course but rather if it’s possible!! thank you! (๑・̑◡・̑๑)

UCAS only allows 4 applications for Medicine, the 5th choice has to be another subject.
Yes, whatever you might apply for in Australia etc has no impact on your UCAS application.
Just be aware that the Australian academic year runs Feb/March to December, not Sept/Oct to June as in the UK. and so the application timetable will be different.

Hi @catwich ,

It's great to see you are already thinking about university!

Here are the answers to your questions:
1) Yes, using the UCAS you can only apply to five universities. If your applying for medicine, you can only apply for a maximum of four medicine course, the fifth option must be non-medicine.
2) Yes, this maximum will not carry across when applying abroad as you will not be using UCAS.
3) Yes, you can apply for your five options in the UK on UCAS, then apply abroad separately. You will likely be applying directly to these universities abroad, but they may also be an option to use a central system like UCAS. As the other reply has said, make sure you look at the application times as this may differ from UK university application dates.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (Business and Management)
