Generally from the stories I heard from my friends it is fine, a good mix of people from various backgrounds - but you have a few sour grapes who didn't make it into Oxbridge and this is their fall back.
Don't let the sour grapes deter you from it though - its a great Uni.

I think you might be best checking out one of their open days to get a feel for the area. Their report from the Office for Students will give you a feel for the place too. Bristol is supposed to be lovely, only been once with the football so don't know it that well
