Dietetics as a Second Degree

Hello,

I graduated a couple of years ago with a bachelor and masters degree in earth sciences and have been working in the field ever since. I am hoping that I can go back to university to study Dietetics as a second degree however this would only be possible subject to funding. I'm aware that there is a NHS Bursary but can you also get a student loan from SFE/SLC to cover the full tuition fee over the duration of the course? The course I am hoping to undertake would be either Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Worcester or Human Nutrition & Dietetics at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Thanks

The NHS Wales bursary is only available for eligible healthcare courses studied in Wales. If you study at a uni in England and are eligible for student finance, then you can apply to the NHS Learning Support Fund for the annual training grant of £5k per year (this is paid in addition to your maintenance loan). Be aware that it often doesn't make financial sense for a student from England to study a healthcare course in Wales. Read the following thread for more details:

Comparing funding for healthcare courses in England, Scotland and Wales

You could also consider pre-registration masters courses - they are 2-year condensed versions of the undergraduate course.

Hi there,

Yes, you can apply to Student Finance England for the funding. Dietetics is an exception course as long as you're not already registered in the field you're looking to apply to. Thanks, Jason
