Year 11 Student - Keeping myself accountable

Hello everyone! I'm Oscar and a year 11 student about to take my GCSEs in May.
I've been getting decent grades up till now. I'd like to think of myself as capable and curious, but I just can't keep myself disciplined to revise regularly no matter what I do. I used to feel guilty for procrastinating, but recently I've become numb to that feeling despite my exams looming, and I really hate this side of myself. I guess I'm kind of procrastinating right now too by typing this up haha - I'm hopeless aren't I ;-; , but I hope this post could help me step in the right direction.

My main issue is definitely timing - as in spending too much time thinking and not writing ( especially in english, I just get stuck ) and my writing speed, and this shows itself even in the subjects I'm good at. Please give me any tips you have!

My subjects and predicted grades ( about the same as my mock grades ) are as below :
Eng lit edexcel - 7
Eng lang edexcel 1.0 - 5 ( please I beg let me get a 7 )
Maths edexcel - 9
Further maths aqa - 9
Physics aqa - 9
Chemistry aqa - 9
Biology aqa - 8 ( why are the mark schemes so harsh ;-; )
Comp sci ocr - 9
Business aqa - 9
Geography edexcel a - 8
DT Graphics ( papers and boards ) edexcel - 8 ( I HATE COURSEWORK AHHH)

Current focus : Physics paper 2, Eng lang paper 1

Good luck to everyone else studying for their exams!

Your grades look great! You appear to be incredibly strong in the science/maths type subjects but weaker in English. Very few members of the population are stunningly brilliant in all subjects, so do be forgiving to yourself for not having straight 9s 😂 You are very lucky to have so many strong subjects!

However English is an important subject so put a bit more effort into keeping that one going well. Past paper practice will help you get quicker with thinking of answers. Look at the mark schemes carefully afterwards to see what will get you the points. Designate the same day after school each week and/or a free period during the day, to do an English past paper. Make sure you do it every week at the same time! That will become your ‘English day’ and that is what you must do before you go home/watch tv/play on your phone/eat diner etc!!!

Pick a page of a novel you like or your favourite song lyrics and time yourself writing it down. Then do it again and try to write it quicker. Time it. Can you do it quicker? When you have done it as fast as you can, get someone in your house or a friend to read it. Can they? Is it legible? How fast can you write and it is still readable? Spend 10 mins a day (over breakfast, in a free period or while listening to music in the evening etc) practising copying and timing some writing, as fast as you can. Strengthen your hand stamina and speed. Check it’s still legible to others. This should start to filter into your speed writing for all your exams.

Now pick an English day/time and stick to it!

Good luck

This is really good advice for the OP and anyone in general! Will definitely be using the last idea!
