Switching degrees but haven't done UCAS

Hello everyone. I'm currently a first year studying law at King's but recently my health has declined and I have decided to withdraw. I have decided I want to do Education BA at Brunel, but since I've had to make this decision in March, I haven't done UCAS or gone through the application process this year. I have reached out to the admissions team, and my grades are above their requirement too, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do now. Does anyone have any advice please? I don't want to have to take a gap year.
Thank you so much.

Switching uni and course is a life changing decision. I suggest you think it very seriously.

Are you confident that your health conditions permit your studies in Brunel? Education will not be less intense than Law. Seriously, why not taking a recess year from Kings, you have strong extenuating grounds.

If anyway you have decided, I think you have to submit s formal application via UCAS, same as you did last year.

If the course at Brunel is still open to applications, you will need to submit a UCAS application for 2025 entry. It is likely that Brunel will require a reference from your current university so speak to your course tutor before you withdraw.

if your heart is set on Brunel, then I would double check with them if they’d still consider you if you apply now AND logistically sort out how soon you could get UCAS done (and done well). they’ll probably want the reference to come from Kings so be in formation and know who you’d ask/ who could do it before the month is up if Brunel says they still have spaces

if you’re open to other education courses though I’d say wait for clearing in August so you can take your time, focus on your health, and weigh more uni options

If I wait till August for clearing, would I just call up the universities on the day without having done the application at all? Thank you for the reply btw

no problem! you don’t have to call- basically it’s a full reset on UCAS and all the schools that have places on whatever courses that are starting soon will be up on UCAS and it’ll say apply/ open. so you’d still apply as normal and can pick up to 5 schools but the decision process will be accelerated. think of it like speed dating or a flash sale haha

I just looked and it officially opens 5 July 😊

If you wait for clearing to open, some of the courses with spaces now might have filled up. You will still have to complete a UCAS application for clearing.

I wouldn’t recommend waiting for August.
Clearing is part of UCAS so you need a full UCAS application to use it.
If you apply now you can still apply to 5 choices (including Brunel) and if you change your mind in July/August then clearing would still also be an option.
If you apply now you maximise your options and choices, if you wait then your options will be limited.
