Accommodation

I really want to go to UEA. I've heard that most of their accommodation is in a village. Has anyone lived there and what's it like?

Hi Aimee,

Nice to hear you want to go to UEA. We have lots of different accommodation types which you can look at in more detail here.

I am not too sure what you mean by in a village. We have The Village which is en-suite accommodation at the edge of campus, but if you want to live on-campus there are plenty of options! I lived in Britten House which was a 2 minute walk from the heart of campus and I was surrounded by other accomodation blocks too, which was great for making friends. We used to have the local bunnies outside our window too in the mornings.

I know people who have lived in The Village and they really enjoyed it. It's a short walk to the LCR (a music venue) and the bar on campus but if you don't feel like going out, the social life in The Village is great as well.

Hope this helps, but if you have anymore questions then let me know 🙂

Is the ensuite campus considered a loud accommodation?

I wouldn't say so. I never had to complain about my neighbours or other flats. I had one instance where I had my window open at night during the summer and some party-goers mingled outside my flat (we were ground floor), but I put a call into security and they were straight out there, so I was back to sleep in 20 mins. I found I could really shut away the world if I wanted to and get my head down to study.

Are there certain accommodations that are known for being more sociable or quieter?

In my experience (I stayed in Britten House, en-suite campus):

The Village: separated from the rest of the accommodation by about a 10-20 minute walk but has it's own little community.

The Ziggurats: always seemed to have something going on so I would say they are more sociable.

Hickling & Barton: still on campus but a bit away from everyone else.

I didn't hear much about the other accommodation blocks.

Honestly I think during freshers week and move in week everyone is keen to make friends. I partied a fair amount during my first few weeks but after that just lived my uni life undisturbed. I only went to gatherings in my accommodation block but that's because we had a Facebook group chat to all keep in contact.

But everyone will have different experiences, so you can always reach out to the UEA accommodation team for their recommendations on socialble/quiet flats. If it makes you feel better, I put The Village as my first choice and was devastated when I didn't get it, but I ended up having the best time in Britten House!

Hi @Anonymous # 2

I would say that Barton and Hickling is known for being slighlty quieter and perhaps ensuite village.

I would say on the whole more sociable accommodation may be more on campus such as the Ziggurats and perhaps ensuite campus.

However, everybody's experience is different and it very much depends on the flatmates for that specific flat.
