Economics GCSE requirements

For context, I attend a large private school and I got 3 9s, 4 8s and 3 7s at GCSEs. We had a talk at school recently saying that if you don't have majority 9s, you shouldn't think about applying to top universities, even if you are to achieve 4 A* in your predicted grades. I was thinking about applying to economics at Warwick, UCL and Durham and I have improved my grades since GCSEs and I was just wondering if my grades will prevent me from being a likely candidate. Thank you for any responses.

I’m sorry but I think you’ve made this up. There is no way your school would say that 😂 GCSE’s are only mildly taken into account for oxbridge, and even then, for a more maths based economics course, cambridge would be suitable, which looks less at them. Your GCSE’s are probably only slightly below average, which shouldn’t matter much. You can ask about the importance of GCSE’s, but I highly doubt your school actually said if you’re not basically getting all 9s in GCSE’s your chances are over
