Postgraduate Courses

Hi,

I have applied for three postgraduate courses in Criminal Justice, or some variation of this. I have applied to Northumbria, Sunderland, and Teesside. I would rank these unis in this order so far but am really unsure on which university to pick. I have received an offer already from Teesside, but not heard back from the other unis (it hasn't even been a week since applying so I'm not worried yet).

Does anyone have any information on any of these universities to help make my decision? I am obviously attending open days but other than this I am really torn between which university I would like to attend. My plan currently is to live at home and commute in when necessary as I know postgrad courses usually have reduced timetables and I'll be in much less than my undergrad degree. I live within 1.5hours of each university and am happy with this being my commute time. However I am still open to moving out if I can afford to so would be looking at accomodation at each uni too.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello :flower2:
This is so exciting that you are embarking on a postgrad study journey, you will love it! You're right, postgrad has far more independent learning time than time actually spent on campus, though the library will probably become your second home! A 1.5 hour commute is manageable, as long as you're happy with that. My commute is just over an hour and I travel by train so it is great to be able to have time to catch up on reading etc while I'm travelling in. Being in commuter student in no way detracts from enjoying the uni experience either, you can still join all the clubs and societies you are interested in and really become part of the university life.

In terms of which university to pick, my best advice is go to open days and applicant days and have a good look around the campus, take the tours and speak to the students and staff in the department and the student support staff. Look at the library and the facilities the university has to offer you. Choosing a uni is a really personal thing and what suits one person perfectly may not suit the next person whatsoever, so you need to see how YOU feel there. Open days and Applicant days are the best way to see if you feel comfortable there, like the environment etc.

Good luck with making your choice and your postgrad degree,
Jess
