UCAS Extra: Another Opportunity to Secure a University Place

What is UCAS Extra

If you’ve used all five of your choices on your university application and aren’t holding any offers, don’t worry - you still have a chance to find a place through UCAS Extra.

UCAS Extra is open from 26th February to 4th July 2025, giving you the opportunity to apply for additional courses if you weren’t accepted or declined the original offers you received.

Who Can Use UCAS Extra

You can use UCAS Extra if:

You used all five choices on your application,

You have received decisions from all five, and weren’t accepted,

Or if you declined the offers you received

Important Once you use UCAS Extra to apply for a new course, you cannot go back to your original five choices.

How to Add More Choices in UCAS Extra

1. Find a course you want to apply for

Use the ‘Show courses with vacancies’ filter in the Search tools on the UCAS website

Contact the university or college admissions team to check if they’ll consider your application

2. Apply for the new course

Add the course details to your application through UCAS Extra

3. Wait for a decision

The university or college will review your application. If you don’t receive a response within 21 days, you can either wait or apply for another course.

If you receive an offer and reply, as long as you meet the entry requirements you are in :smartass:

If you receive an offer but don’t want to accept it, you can decline it.

If you’re not offered a place you can search for other courses and add another Extra choice

4. What happens next

Once you receive a decision, you need to accept or decline the offer

If you accept an offer, you won’t be able to apply to any more courses through Extra

Make sure you reply by the deadline listed on your UCAS homepage - if you don’t, the offer will be declined automatically !

If you decline the offer or don’t receive a decision within 21 days, you can add another choice - However it may take universities longer than 21 days to reply and technically Universities have until midnight on 17th July to make their decisions, but you don’t have to wait if you’d prefer to apply elsewhere.

Things to Keep in Mind

You can only apply to one course at a time in UCAS Extra, so there’s no option for an insurance choice (it's slightly different from the usual UCAS application)

It’s okay if you didn’t receive any offers in your original application ! Many students secure places through Extra and end up loving their university experience - this is what happend to my friend

If you don’t get an offer through Extra, don’t worry - you can still apply through Clearing.

I hope this helps, and all the information above can be found on the UCAS website
