The Student Room Group

University of Sheffield - Meeting People

Hey!

I’m going to put UoS as my firm choice.

Was curious for the best advice for making friends, meeting people and more is.

Obviously i know about societies and such, but anything else? Like groupchats I could join or something?

Thanks!

Hi, I'm going there too. I think you have to wait until you go there. I did search it too, but couldn't find anything. Don't worry about. I believe you're a young student and you'll fit in just fine. I'm 33yo and I'm stressed, but went to offer holders day and the other students were pretty friendly but too young for my age. I have studied in uni before and the younger ones are always get along. So my advice is just to wait and find your society and group there. Also the student union there is massive so you would find like minded people. If you are in biomedical engineering or engineering or engineering at all you can reach out to me because I'm the only old guy in there 😂.

Hiya,

When I was in first year, there was a few groupchats I found online and if you have Facebook, you can find your uni accom's groupchats where you can find people who may live in your flat or neighbouring blocks.

Once you are at uni, you can join events that your accom hosts through the residence life team. During my freshers week, I went to a tote bag painting event with some people from the block next to mine and met new people at the event.

There are always plenty of opportunities to meet people so I am sure you will have a great time!

Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions,

they are a few group chats you can join however nobody really speaks in them. my brother says usually people start speaking once uni actually starts though.
