University choices

Hi, I just want to get a bit of advice. I am in year 13 and I have applied for psychology at Leed,Cardiff, Chester, York and Liverpool. I don't want to go to Liverpool as I have realised it is a bit small and quite close to home and then I don't really want to go York as it is a bit expensive and I don't think I would enjoy it there. I wanted to firm Cardiff but I am unsure now after hearing about the cuts happen at the Welsh universities even though it doesn't specifically affect my course I am just worried now. I would like to firm Cardiff but I am just too unsure so is it better that I firm Leeds but I am bit worried that I won't fit in at Leeds as I haven't heard much about diversity there which make me a bit wary.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated thanks.

Every uni has its own goods. Nowadays most unis face financial difficulties to various degrees, but not all had announced their savings plans. So don't worry too much.

UK unis generally have very wide student spectrum. So not enough diversity is seldom a concern.

Maybe you could look into the course structures to see which you like most.

Leeds uni is very diverse. There are lots of international students there so diversity is not an issue. Leeds itself is a great student city; safe and lots to do for students.

That said, Cardiff city is equally vibrant. Yes its true some departments have shut down, but the courses that remain will be strongly supported.

Hi there,

Great to hear you want to come to Cardiff! I'm a student here and love it, its a great city, uni, such a good city to be a student in, with an amazing student community - led by our leading students' union!
In regards to the cuts - there are still a lot of speculation and rumours going around. If your course if unaffected as well I really would not worry at all, and your course will run as usual.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi there,

It's great to hear that you have applied to study at Chester!

I know this is probably easier said than done, but if your course is unaffected at Cardiff, it’s important to not let this impact your decision making.

Have you been to an Applicant/Offer Holder days for any of your choices? This is a great way to get more information and a real feel for each option, so that it is then easier to make a decision on your firm and insurance choices. At Chester, our next events are coming up on Wednesday 9th April and Saturday 10th May. It's definitely a good idea to look into events at your other choices, if you haven't already visited.

Chatting to current Psychology students may also be a good idea, so that you can hear first hand what it's like to study this course at each university. Chester students can be found here if that's of interest to you.

Please let me know if you have any questions related to studying at Chester, I'd be happy to help 🙂

Best wishes,
Becky
