Nursing Universities

Out of the 5 Universities I am going to list, which Universities do you think is the best to attend for nursing BSc degree.
University of Liverpool
Edge Hill University
Liverpool John Moores
University of Leeds
Keele University
I am located in Liverpool, so I do prefer to go to one of the top 3 universities.

Genuinely for nursing as a career, it doesn't matter.

Your future employer won't care where your degree came from, so long as it came from an accredited provider and you have an active PIN. All UK pre-registration nursing degree curricula have to meet the standards set by the NMC for registration, so they are pretty much the same in terms of employability. So in that respect, they are standardised. It might matter if you want to go into research or academia, in which case the Russell Group uni's (Leeds & Liverpool) might be preferable. If nursing practice is your goal, choose the uni you like best, the student culture, the actual campus itself, the simulation facilities, what placements do they offer and how far are you likely to have to travel? What about student support, is that important to you? Do you want a university with a strong pastoral support framework or are you ok with a more traditional set up? Student satisfaction?

Thankyou for that!
I was thinking of either Uni of Liverpool or Edge Hill because both are close and I’ve been to both so I like how they are, especially the communities and facilities but also the students support, when I talked to them during open days was good
For me, I might finalise my decision on University of Liverpool, hoping I get in because I haven’t even done my interview yet so…
But as it’s a Russel group with more research based institute, I think it will be a good blend of theory but also practical experience.
Thankyou very much for your response!

Genuine answer... the best university is..... all of them. They're all NMC accredited, so as long as you get your degree the NMC will let you register, employers will employ you as long as you've passed your degree/are on the NMC register/interview well enough, and your patients will only care about you being competent.

Part of it depends on whether you want to stay in Liverpool or move away for your nursing degree (or if you have no preference). Placements are dependant on 3 things: 1) the placement areas linked to that university (in the university's area), 2) your term time address 3) your transport accesss (ie whether or not you have a car). Where you get sent on placement is primarily on the university placement links.... so, if you choose Leeds or Keele, your placements will be in those areas not Liverpool; but if you choose Liverpool/Edge Hill/John Moores then your placements will be be in Liverpool City Region not Leeds or Stoke-on-Trent/north Staffs.

I note you've not interviewed yet. My advice would be to not put all of your eggs in one basket at this stage. I'd encourage you to go through the full process for all of the accredited local universities in the catchment area you are prepared to travel for placements (so LJMU, UoL & EHU). That way you can keep your options open and get as many offers in as possible and make your choice.

If you fix your choice to a single uni at this stage, you risk not receiving an offer this application cycle. So you'd likely have to wait to reapply for March/Sept 2026 intakes.

Okay so I forgot to say this but, I have received offers from EHU, Uni of Leeds, LJMU and Keele university. I am waiting to do my final interview for University of Liverpool. So I guess it should only make the choice once I have done my interview and received an offer from it.
