DSA Laptop Psychology

Hey,

I about to order my DSA laptop, not sure yet what options are etc but wanted to know if anyone has experience with the providers RemTek? If so what laptops for they offer and upgrades etc?

I have about 5 softwares from DSA already being installed but I am also as psychology student required to have a statistics software that takes up a lot of room and I have been a mac user for the past 10 years so I am conflicted about whether it would be easier to just stick to a mac if I can.

Thanks

Hi so I didn't use Remtek but as a Psych student with a DSA laptop (Lenovo something or other), all my stats software fit on my laptop with plenty of spare space. I had three separate stats software and even had space to install games

They should give you the base option and then a list of upgrades with prices (study tech did so I am assuming remtek is the same). From what you have said, you are going to want probably a higher amount of ram 16GB and atleast 512GB SSD. You do not need to worry about graphics if you aren't doing any gaming or benchmark heavy processes. In terms of a processor try to go for AMD 5 or intel i5 or higher, and the newer the better.

Edit: Regarding the Mac, a lot of the assistive software (I am looking at you dragon) do not work on mac, so it might be worth giving it a quick google, you don't want to be upgrading to a mac and then your much needed software not working, you will adjust to windows regardless just takes some getting used to.

Hi I wondered if you got a Mac in the end? I’ve just had my assessment with Capita, I’m starting a Psychology degree soon too and I mentioned to the assessor that I’m used to Apple products so I’ll most likely request a MacBook although I know I’ll end up paying a bit for it. I’ve read horror stories online about this particular supplier though.

I used RemTek once when I was in grad school. Their hardware is solid, but upgrades can be pricey. If your statistics software demands lots of power, I’d lean toward a good Windows laptop rather than trying to force a Mac to behave. You’ll get more flexibility.
