According to gradcafe, a couple of PT applicants have already received Nuffield offers

well, let's hope they don't send out all of them in one batch

besides, academic conditions are impossible xd. They want a distinction from a research course at Cambridge...

wow

to be honest this is where I feel students from non-UK universities often have a relatively easier route. For example, at Harvard, approx 80% of students receive A-grades. That would be unheard of at Oxford or Cambridge. According to another source, the average undergrad GPA at harvard is close to 3.80. When i did my MSc at Oxford, only a handful of students would receive 70+ for social science courses and to be honest, that's how it should be.

I have a friend currently doing his Masters at a California based university and in his own words "I'm not the smartest or the most hard working person but i'm literally sleeping my way to a 3.9+"

yeah a real shame because they lose out on talent, people will just migrate to Sciences Po or sg. My path, too.

let us add fast that US degrees are now wortheless in terms of the knowledge they transmit...

Also: (?)
Nuffield makes decisions about which applicants to admit based on the following selection criteria:

Applicants must first have been accepted by a Department or Faculty of the University of Oxford before any college or permanent private hall may consider them.
I believe those early March people must have reeived their departmental offers earlier as well.

haha i was going to add this initially but didn't want to sound overly judgmental

I took one DPIR course during my MSc and most of my colleagues were Americans. During our tutorials, I used to be consistently amazed at the lack of intellectual depth in many of their discussions and questions. Don't get me wrong, some were brilliant and really knew their stuff but on the whole, very disappointing. But this is what grade inflation does. If every other person is getting a 3.75+, then almost all of them are technically eligible for Oxford.

I saw the same trend across departments. Most of my colleagues from non-US backgrounds were genuinely smart and had the intellectual depth one expects from any graduate student, let alone one enrolled at Oxford

I guess we can expect a similar outcome? let's see. Any changes to your offer docs?

Considering the number of people who just had a portal change doesn’t inspire a lot of hope 😅
