EPQ Artefact.

I am starting my EPQ, and I have been advised to do an artefact. However because we haven’t been assigned advisors or anything I am not really sure where I stand. I was planning on basing my project on history (Colonisation of the Americas, or, collapse of the Roman Empire).
If anyone has any ideas as to how I could make this work, or what to do that would be greatly appreciated.
