GBC and BPS issue

I got conditional offer for MSC health psychology from University of Southampton which BPS accredited but in the conditional offer, I wasn't asked to produce GBC for my UG psychology degree which I did in India. But every university asks for GBC, right? It's confusing why they didn't ask me for it whereas every other universities have it as their main criteria for selection

My guess would be that because the MSc is only the first stage of qualification, they aren't as fussed about GBC. They will be if you want to do stage 2 (placement) though through an employer. There will likely be a number of students who don't go on to qualify as a health psychologist and some may do it for interest

Hi @Dhee77 ,

I've checked and a BPS accredited degree or conversion MSc is an entry requirement for doctorate-level training courses approved by the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). You can find out more here, but my understanding proof of a GBC/BPS membership is not needed at this level and they don't need proof because it's not doctorate-level.

Hope this helps!

Hello! Congratulations on your offer. Proof of graduate membership is only needed when you reach the doctorate level, and as the MSc itself is accredited, the university doesn't need to take into consideration whether your undergraduate was or wasn't. Hope this makes sense!

You would still need GBC if you want to be a health psychologist, as the MSc is the second stage after the undergrad or conversion course

Hey,
First of all, congratulations on getting your conditional offer from Southampton that’s a really great achievement!

If Southampton didn’t mention GBC in your conditional offer, it might be because they plan to check it later during the enrolment process, or it could just be how they word their offers differently. It would be a good idea to email or call the university’s admissions team or the Student Hub to double-check. Email: [email protected] Telephone: 02380599599 It’s always better to ask early rather than have any confusion later on.

You’ve already done the important part by getting your psychology degree and moving forward with your plans you’re definitely on the right track.
Wishing you the best of luck, and hope everything gets sorted smoothly!

Best wishes
