I’ve never been ID’d for paracetamol (I’m 15)!

I’ve never been ID’d for paracetamol and I usually buy it at Boots, B&M, Sainsbury’s, body care. I very clearly look my age, no one’s ever told me I look older and I’m getting really insecure now. The minimum age to buy paracetamol is 16, why have I never been ID’d? If they follow the challenge 25 policy on paracetamol they’re tryna say I look over 25???? No way, what does this mean? I live near Luton btw

Don't think it means anything. I was also not ID'd buying paracetamol aged 14-15. Suspect you buying a box of paracetamol is not seen as suspicion, that's all.

Did you just buy it once? Or did u buy it multiple times when u were under 16 and was never id’d?

multiple times. im 16 now and have never got id'd. i don't think u actually need to be id'd unless they suspect ur suicidal or smth

As much as painkillers are age restricted they are 16 not 18 and therefore not part of the challenge 25 policy (someone just needs to look 16, not 16 + 'x' number of years)

It's just not viewed the same, there is a direct policy to keep alcohol and tobacco out of the hands of under 18s for a wide range of health, social and legal reasons but painkillers? anyone of any age can genuinely need them, the age restriction is purely to stop people hurting themselves.

I'm not sure it being restricted to 16 rather than 18 has anything to do with it, tbh. I have been refused energy drinks despite being (and looking) in my late 20s even though those also being restricted to 16. I think people just care less about painkillers as people don't see them as dangerous - you can only buy 2 packets anyway so I suspect those selling them simply don't think selling them to a teen will result in much harm.

I can't speak for individual incidents but for age 18 products where challenge 25 applies there is obv a far wider range of ages where they're supposed to err on side of caution and ID. Retail workers have the legislation and heavy penalties hammered into them (I need to redo the training pretty much every year) so I'd argue It's def more likely for a cashier to be on the ball about age 18+ products.

Painkillers and caffeine by contrast, as we're saying, people just don't care as much. I don't even know if there's a penalty. Some retails might just lump any age restricted products into the 'Challenge 25' bracket to try and keep themselves covered.
