Make the Most off your Open Day Experience

So, you’re coming to an open day? That’s great! We can’t wait to meet you!

Open days can be a great way to ask questions and get an idea of what you could get up to as a student.

If you’ve booked onto an open day, you will receive information about the day before you arrive. This includes a schedule of the talks and tours available on the day, the drop-in desks available and a campus map to help you find your way around.

Before you arrive, I would suggest having a look at which talks and tours you want to attend so you have an idea of what times you need to be available on campus.
Another thing to get you prepared, is to have a look at the course pages online and note down any questions you might have. An open day allows you to meet some of the tutors who could be teaching you, so this is your opportunity to ask them everything you want to know to make sure BCU is the place for you.

Now you’re prepared, let’s look at the day itself. This is how I would plan my time to make the most of an open day.

Firstly, I would try and see your course first if possible. Have a look at when the first talk is and try to attend. When you attend the talk, make some notes and ask any questions to make sure you’re getting the most out of your visit. Some courses will also show you around the facilities available, so again try and ask questions and take everything in.

I would then have a quick pit stop before having a look at the accommodation available. As well as chatting to the accommodation team about where you could live as a student, there are also accommodation tours available for some of the halls of residents. This is your opportunity to see where you could be living and what to expect from student halls. Try to ask questions on the tours and even take pictures so you can look back and compare accommodations later.

If you have some time after your accommodation tours, then I would recommend checking out what else uni has to offer besides your studies. You can meet some of the team from the Student Union to find out about the different events and societies on offer. Or you could also try the Eagle and Ball student pub or the Social Kitchen for some great food and a chance to think about what you’ve seen about the uni so far.

You will also find various other people to chat to on the day, including student and finance support teams, so you can clear up any questions you may have about student living and funding your time at uni.

And finally, one of the most important things you can do at an open day chat to the students! There will be lots of student ambassadors you can chat to on the day, so if you have any questions about student life, these are the best people to chat too!

We look forward to seeing you soon!
