Hi, I’m an A Level student, studying Maths, Biology Chemistry. In my GCSE history I self-studied it due to reasons and got a grade 8. In my GCSE maths at the end of year 10 I was still in foundation set getting around a grade 5, but was able to bring that grade up to an 8 by year 11 exams.
So here are my advice:
History:
. Would really recommend past papers and writing draft essays.
. Hodder textbooks are quite good for history and offer lots of source evaluation practice.
. Seneca I found very good for history practice as it is engaging and has active recall quizzes.
. BBC Bitesize/BBC Teach have some good videos at GCSE level.
. I made and downloaded knowledge organizers.
Maths:
Just a note that Maths A Level requires somewhat different skills to gcse maths- it is more exam technique practice you need for A Level. I am finding some aspects of A Level maths tricky despite doing decently well at GCSE. I suppose it totally depends. Do any ‘bridge the gap’ activities offered by your sixth form during y11 summer.
I would recommend:
. The GCSE Maths Tutor, particularly his grade 9 videos
. Corbett Maths 5 a day , try the higher difficulty ones
. My maths cloud has target grade 9 style papers, which focus on the end of paper questions
Hope this helps!
