Should I go to Kent?

Hi, I am an international student thinking about applying to Kent for 2026 entry, and to study history
I was just wondering things like what is the accomodation and student life like there, whats the city of Kent like, and just generally would people recommend the university?
Also how competitive is it to get in - i am a predicted 40-43/45 in the IB, would I be able to get in pretty easily?
Thanks so much!

Canterbury is very nice, hence the expensive living costs. It is a small campus; again, it is also very nice. It is one place I would consider living in for a career or whatever. It is not particularly hard to get an offer, you should visit the place if possible.

Hi,
I hope your are well!😊

It's great to see that you are looking to apply to study at Kent!😊
History sounds like a really interesting course!🎓️ It was one of my favourite topics in secondary school! I'm currently in my third year studying Social Science at Kent and get quite excited when I get to study a little bit of history during my course🤭- I find it really interesting!

I'm a little bit biased because I've loved my time here at Kent, but I'll share my experiences anyway! 🤗

During my studies I've had lots of opportunities to get involved in societies and clubs, and meet new people.

I've also worked part-time for the Student Union who offer part-time work opportunities for students around their studies. I've also worked as a Student Ambassador part time too, which has allowed me to develop my skills when representing the university, and earn a little bit of money around my studies too!😊

I've also been involved in some panels too where we talk about the issues important to students. I have been part of a wellbeing panel, and I'm also aware of an International Student Panel too.

Canterbury campus is a lovely campus, and has everything that students need in walking distance. For example, students can find their lecture rooms, study spaces, the library, accommodation, and services such as Student Support a short walk from one another, which makes the campus easy to get around if you need anything.

There are places to grab a bite to eat on campus in Cafe's and restaurants, and there's lots of green space too for students to relax in.

Canterbury city centre is only a short bus or car ride away from the campus, which has some lovely cafes, a beautiful cathedral (where you'll graduate!) and some great places to shop too and spend time with friends!

Kent also has a range of accommodations to fit lots of different students needs. You can browse the accommodations by clicking the link above and take a virtual tour around the rooms too.

Kent is proud to be a diverse and inclusive campus with students coming from all different backgrounds and different countries too. There are dedicated pages on our website for International students which can be found here.

Here's a few things about History at Kent:

Students have the option to study History, Military History or Ancient History, and tailor their modules and course to their specific interests.

A typical offer for History this academic year (Starting 2025) for IB is 120 tariff points. You can find out more about International entry requirements here.

History is located at the Canterbury Campus, so you will be living and learning in a rich historical area too!

You can find out more about studying History here, from a current students perspective.

History at Kent ranked 1st for research quality in The Complete University Guide 2025

Kent is home to the British Cartoon Archive and holds a rare and complete set of British official histories of the two world wars. You can find out more about Kent's archives here.

Students have gone on to some exciting careers after studying History at Kent. Some have become lecturers, work at the National Archives, and have continued on in research. See our Alumni profiles here.

I hope this helps!
