Admissions Stats for Vet Med

Hi All,

A new cycle of applications will start soon, and I thought I would share some admissions stats. Especially for those who got rejected :frown: , apart from making sure you work on your weaknesses which might have tripped you over (interviews, MMIs, personal statement, work experience, grades), I recommend applying strategically and paying attention to the application process (below are some tips from my own research but also from the very helpful thread on this forum for the current application cycle)

1) Note stats for Edinburgh and Glasgow for the “rest of the UK” and “Scottish students” or higher rejection pre-interview for some universities, don’t apply to all the “top competition”, spread equally.

2) Or check what the application process is like:

- Bristol asks you to write some essays (SAQ)

- Liverpool, Surrey Recorded MMI (online, 1 week to submit, 30 min for 6-7 questions)

- Nottingham online interview via teams with live people, 30 min (this was my favorite)

Play at your strengths!

3) Personal statement (PS) read the application process.

- UCLAN has a format for the PS - if you don’t fit it, you will get rejected

- Liverpool, Surrey and Bristol do not usually read PS from UCAS (2024 statement) unless you are tied with other candidates on the scores.

I will update this topic once stats for 2024/25 cycle is released (and Surrey an Harper & Keele hopefully).

Admissions stats is for the 2023/24 and 2022/23 admission cycles (current year applications are not available until Aug/ Sept 25)
- the number of applications,
- the number of interviews,
- the number of offers made,
- the number of acceptances,
- the number of enrolments.

Hello
No. I can't get it to work, you have to register on Surrey's encrypted portal but they will only send registration to an email address associated with the "what do you know website" - which you don't have (i.e. someone who works at "what do they know" has to repsond) and the codes they send are only valid for 10 min, so by the time anyone from the website looks at it, it expires. I gave up 😅

Does anyone have the statistics for Harper and Keele?

They consistently dodge the question when confronted by an FOI request for information so I very much doubt it’s available.

I wonder why there are less enrollments than offers? surely there would be a wait list? Especially for Scottish Students in the likes of Edinburgh and Glasgow

No they have far less places available than offers made. Statistically globally( not specifically vet med) only 30% of students match or do better than their predicted grades and the vet schools take this into account when making their offers. They were completely over subscribed during COVID with the huge grade inflation and everyone making their grades. Even accommodation became a problem. If however more people than predicted fail to make their grades, they will use the wait list, or if fewer candidates accept their offers than predicted.

Thanks. Daughter has her grades and took a gap year so she is just going through the interview process just now

Already having the grades definitely reduces the anxiety levels and all offers are unconditional, but it’s still a stressful process.
Wishing her ( and you) the best of luck.

Also, as a N. American offer holder it's the case that a great many US offerees decline in favor of state-side schools, given the cost and logistics of relocation and fact that our vet med programs are all 4 years.
