Unsure of my future in uni

Hello, I live in the UK and am currently in my first year of sixth form. I am studying Design technology, physics and mathematics. I was looking at a future in architecture or engineering(probably mechanical) however, multiple videos have showed me how a job in architecture looks like which kinda of put me off. I still love the idea of it nonetheless. I was looking at universities and UCL has a course of Engineering and architectural design. If I take this course as an undergraduate, could i: Find jobs later on more focused on Engineering?

Apply for a graduate Mechanical engineering programme at the same university (it says anyone will be considered, however would thus programme allow me to have a good chance at it)?

Your situation sounds very exciting! Your passion for architecture and engineering, combined with the clear plans you are exploring, puts you at the starting point of a world of possibilities.

if you have a passion for both architecture and engineering, and you mentioned in particular mechanical engineering, I would recommend you look into architectural engineering! I study this and it started off more generic, but focuses a lot on building systems and sustainability! It varies greatly across unis, so if you're interested in the engineering with architectural design I would recommend looking at the content of architectural engineering degrees too!! (I wanted to do that course too)
Hi there,

You've had some fab advice already and yes, I agree that Architectural Engineering or Structural and Architectural Engineering may be worth a look for you!

As one example, here at Bath we do both BEng and MEng versions of Structural and Architectural Engineering as well as Civil Engineering (this one works closely with Architecture) - both with options for professional placements.

Both options combine creativity with your maths and physics skills to solve real world structural and architectural problems and to develop new designs, and are both quite hands-on getting you involved in group and individual design projects from early on.

Perhaps have a look at what other unis offer course-wise and visit a few open days!

I hope this helps and best of luck in your next steps 🙂
