Studying MA Journalism at City St George's - A current student perspective

Hello, everyone!

In this thread, you can ask anything about the postgraduate degrees in Journalism at City St George's (and also about student life, social events, living [and saving] in London, or whatever you want).

I’m Thaís, a Brazilian journalist and Erasmus Mundus MA student at City. Since our MA unites a little from general courses, I get to interact with Global Financial, International and Investigative MAs students as well.

I’m super excited about the course, the quality of the teachers, the practical and market-oriented approach of the journalism MAs here.

I thought of some questions to start this conversation, but feel free to ask anything you want

Do you have any experience in journalism?

Which specialization are you most interested in?

What do you hope to get out of the master?

Hi.

I have accepted the offer for the upcoming cohort of EMJ with City St George specialisation.

How can I better prepare for the upcoming journey. I have been thinking of taking some language courses (Spanish A2 and Arabic A1 level) to better enhance my CV for the journey ahead. What else can I do to prepare myself for the two years ahead?

Regards

Hi, amazing! Congratulations and welcome to Erasmus Mundus Journalism. This is indeed a great start. In City, you will be able to choose from electives in the fields of Financial Journalism, Data Journalism, Podcasting, or reporting on Humanitarian, Science, International, Political or Security and Crime issues. Reading a lot and knowing the path you want to follow in journalism will help you to arrive prepared for both choosing the courses and engage in the discussions and assignments. It is a practical course, so you will learn during the journey!

Also, I hear that curriculum has changed. The current cohort (2025-26) will be taking revised the curriculum or the update will happen from the 2026-27 cohort?

The current cohort will take the new one already, and it encompasses these themes I sent. You can find all the details about the courses and modules in the EMJ page at City: https://www.citystgeorges.ac.uk/prospective-students/courses/postgraduate/erasmus-mundus-masters-journalism-media-and-globalisation
