Career Prospects studying Law at SOAS

I want to hear from those who finished their undergraduate courses at SOAS and led careers in commercial & corporate law. How was your experiences securing training contracts? Did you do anything extra-curricular to set you apart from others when applying? Or was it enough that you went to a university like SOAS?

Hi @aryan.w7,

Not a graduate, but as a current student who chose to study at SOAS.

SOAS Graduates have gone on to work at: Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Linklaters and the United Nations etc. The whole list is avaialble at the bottom of the SOAS Law LLB Page.

SOAS is known as the World's University because we specialise in the areas of Africa, Asia and the Middle East. When studying law at SOAS, you learn about law from a globalised perspective. We have modules on Islamic Law and Legal Systems of Asia and Africa and much more (you can find the list of all the compulsory and optional modules here). These topics (like Islamic Law) support students' applications because if you are interested in working in a firm that has branches in the Middle East or focuses on Finance then you will have an edge as you will have learnt about a topic that is a growing sector of interest here among UK firms.

SOAS is also quite reputable among firms in the UK and internationally. You can also hear from our alumni on how Studying at SOAS had a massive impact on my career as a lawyer in Dubai.

It may be a good idea to reach out to SOAS graduates who have led careers in commercial & corporate law on LinkedIn if you don't hear back here.

I hope this helps 🙂
