Very complex situation- Advice needed

Hello there

My case is a bit of a mess and I’m in need of some accurate advice on funding I can get. My full finance history is as follows:

Attended university initially 2013-2015 and got full funding but had to leave course due to bereavement. I applied for CPR in 2016 and got it “fully awarded”, (or so they claimed)

Attempted university again 2018-2023, with breakdown as follows:

2018-2019: Received partial tuition fee, full maintenance loan

2019-2020: Had to repeat the year due to financial adversity caused by tuition fee not being fully paid in first year, got full maintenance loan

2020-2021: Had to repeat the year again due to health issues caused by long covid. Passed

2021-2022: Second year of course, full funding received

2022-2023: Repeat year due to more health issues, after which I subsequently dropped out as they were so bad

March 2025 applied for CPR again and got it awarded for 2022/2023 and 2020/21

I am feeling better and I have applied to study a 6 year medicine with a foundation year course at the university of liverpool so I was just wondering what finance I would be able to receive, if any.

The man I spoke to on the telephone at SFE must have misunderstood me when I called to ask because he started talking about the 4 year graduate entry medicine courses when that’s not what I’ve applied for

Any insight you can shed would be greatly appreciated

Hi there,

Can you confirm the course and university you're looking to study now? When will it start? Would it be full time or part time?

Is all your previous student full time? Did you have any qualifications currently?

Thanks,
Claire

Hello Claire

It’s the 6 year Foundation to Human and Animal Health Professions (Medicine) (Year 0) course at the University of Liverpool and it’s full time. It will start this September on the 22nd.

In terms of previous study 2013-2015 was full time, 2018/19 was full time, 19/20 & 20/21 were part time, 21/22 was full time and 22/23 was part time

In terms of previous study I’m not sure because I did not receive any certificate from the recent university but I got a certificate of higher education from my first university

Thank you in advance

Hi there,

Is this course classed as undergradaute medicine? I assume it probably isn't graduate-entry, but just want to be sure.

Thanks, Graeme

Hello Graeme
Yes it’s undergraduate entry

Okay, thanks - what we'd strongly recommend here is that you make an application online now, or as soon as you can: https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-forms

Due to your previous study it would be best to have the assessment team review your details in full: they'll then be able to tell you exactly what you'll be entitled to for sure.

Thanks, Graeme

Dear Graeme

Thank you and I have one more question sorry

I originally got a text and an email on the 4th March to say I will receive student finance for the year 22/23 on the 7th March following the CPR. Shortly after that on the 6th March I got another email saying

“We have reviewed your account and identified that you are entitled to more student finance.”

I did not get any payment and when I rang them up they said the money had been recalled.

Do you have any insight into why it would be increased and how long a recall will take?

Thanks in advance

Hi there, we wouldn't be able to advise on this as we'd need access to your account. If you use the live chat we'd be able to check this and further assist. Thanks, Jason
